HANNA DIJKSTRA, PHD

Hey, I'm Hanna

I’m a scientist, communicator, consultant and educator working on the topic of plastic pollution and solutions.  I love working at the intersection of science, society and innovation – helping to understand problems and build solutions that actually work.

I am curious about how innovative ideas, individuals and groups contribute to – or detract from – sustainability progress.

Let’s connect if you want to discuss plastic, sustainability and the ways we can make the world a better place.

Henderson Island Expedition

A groundbreaking mission to clean up one of the most remote (and polluted) beaches in the world. I joined the expedition as a plastic scientist, monitoring just how much waste had ended up on this uninhabited UNESCO site.

Current work

Tackling sustainability challenges requires a multi-faceted approach. My work is currently focused on communication, research and collaborative projects.

Writing

I share my writing through my newsletter, Ripples to Waves, where I share personal essays and scientific updates. I love weaving stories combining pressing challenges, science and research and a touch of humor and emotion.

Science

I'm active in scientific research and thought leadership. I have over 500 citations and 20 reports and articles on topics spanning business models, innovation and entrepreneurship, policy, valuation with a red thread of sustainability, often focused on plastic.

Projects

I wholeheartedly believe collaboration is the key to impact. Through my consulting and freelance work I have been involved in projects ranging from cleanup expeditions to remote islands to sustainable tourism development in the Middle East.

Let's work together to fight ocean plastic pollution

I’m always on the lookout for new stories, research or collaborations to get involved in. We go farther together.
